A HOUSE FOR WALTER BENJAMIN
The man-made "black hole" that you see in the image above is the Benjamin Memorial by the Israeli sculptor Dani Karavan in Port Bou, Spain.
There, seventy years ago, Walter Benjamin committed suicide (apparently).
He was on his way to America, running away from the "purging" activities of the Nazis.
But in these seventy years since his death Benjamin was much more alive than most art critics, art historians and philosophers.
We ask you to study his work and reflect on his activities.
And then design a house for him.
It can be located in Berlin, where he lived, in Paris, where he visited, or in Port Bau where he died. Or it can be a "theoretical" project, waiting for a benevolent location.
Whatever the location might be, this house should honor the man and his work.
We feel it is the least we can do for someone who inspire(d) us continuously.
And who died tragically.
Design A HOUSE FOR WALTER BENJAMIN.
