THE HOUSE OF NATIVITY
An Embroidered House in Bethlehem
It is the end of the year, for a large part of our world.
No part, though, has any monopoly, of any kind.
We are all equal.
Yet, pagan or not, Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish and so on, we all feel the passage of time with particular intensity around this time.
Bethlehem is in Palestine, a city where apparently Christ was born.
We do not have to be Christian to appreciate the beauty of Christ, and the beauty of His birth. Even Nietzsche, while reticent, to say the least, about Christianity, seemed to admire Christ.
Maybe all is symbol and pretext.
And we use this symbolic birth and the pretext of its taking place, historically, in the ancient city of Bethlehem, to invite you to imagine THE HOUSE OF NATIVITY - An "Embroidered House" in Bethlehem.
Bethlehem used to be famous for its enbroideries and we feel that ANY birth, through the umbilical cord and the placenta, is "embroidered" in the vast tapestry of Life whose mystery, fortunately, we didn't solve.
Maybe we need less shopping bags around this time and more reflection.
And more genuine feeling!
And more questioning: why now...? What does it all mean, the birth of Christ...?
So how would THE HOUSE OF NATIVITY look like...?!?
And why would it be embroidered...?!?
Could we imagine it in any other way...?
Doesn't a new life, ANY new life, connect with what preceded it and what might follow it...?!?
We don't really know what life is. We don't really know what birth is.
Myriad of symbols surround us, and at certain times they assert themselves with renewed power.
We invite you to explore, to investigate, to imagine THE HOUSE OF NATIVITY.
THE HOUSE OF BIRTH.
The Primeval Birth.
The Paradigmatic Birth.
The Eternal Birth!
Embroidered from what preceded it, embroidered into what will follow.
We invite ANY work, ANY size and ANY format that responds to the theme.
