A HOUSE FOR LULA AND DILMA
Even with the inevitable cynicism and skepticism that one is often forced to have when assessing political events and personalities, one cannot avoid to be impressed by the tandem LULA / DILMA, the past and present presidents of Brazil.
Brazil was often considered the country of the future that was always destined to be just that: the country of the future, never of the present.
But this, apparently, changed miraculously under President Lula.
A poor, very poor boy, turned into a wise, very wise President of the largest country in South America.
With emotion we read about the great progress that Brazil achieved under his leadership. Finally, it seems, the future became present.
And when we see the hammer-and-sickle present on red flags joyously waved on the inauguration day of President Dilma Rousseff, we wonder… is the new president truly that “pragmatic capitalist” she claims to be now…????????
It is true, the former Marxist radical waved her hand to the people from a Rolls Royce… but it was a Rolls Royce made in 1953. Let us hope the choice of this car was nothing else but a playful, innocent gesture.
But beyond these matters, what stands like an undeniable achievement is the presidenship of LULA, and, prospectively, the one of Dilma.
In the Square of the Three Powers there is the well-known sculpture by Bruno Giorgi - "Dois Candangos" translated as "The Laborers", or even as "The Warriors," celebrating the spirit and hard work of those who built Brasilia.
We could easily see in them Lula and Dilma, laboring for the welfare of their country.
Magnificent example, in a world dominated by corruption, cynicism and deconstruction.
We ask you to imagine A HOUSE FOR LULA AND DILMA, a symbolic house to be placed in the Plaza of the Three Powers. Maybe, through this house, the square could become THE SQUARE OF THE FOUR POWERS. The forth one (besides legislative, executive and judicial) being LOVE.
We think that, unless we are carried away by unacceptable sentimentalism, that it was and is actually LOVE that made President LULA's success, and we like to hope that it will be LOVE (in all its manifestations, including compassion) that will mark the presidency of President Dilma.
Imagine a HOUSE FOR THE FORTH POWER.
A HOUSE FOR LULA AND DILMA.
A House for two politicians who seemed destined to enter history from a position of modesty… the modesty of two presidents who spent this past Christmas in the company of a few garbage collectors: a symbolic gesture that we like to think was more than just a flashy display of solidarity with those less privileged.
DESIGN a HOUSE FOR LULA AND DILMA. In the SQUARE OF THE FOUR POWERS.
Please send us ANY work, ANY size and ANY format that responds to the theme. We will display all of them on our website. The deadline is May 1st, 2011 (Labor Day - Dia do Trabalhador). If you have any questions, please contact us.
