THE HOUSE OF CAMOUFLAGE
Why would a designer choose to emphasize disguise…?
For various reasons, of course…
These reasons could be sincere, or less so.
The result could be theatre, or not… or both.
But the question of disguise is an interesting one.
THE HOUSE OF DISGUISE
This is exactly what we ask you to imagine, in all its complexities, real or mimicked or both.
Between introversion and extroversion here we stand, eternally undecided.
Inconspicuousness can be deceiving, of course, if we are to just contemplate the banality of the fact that in the Western part of the world usually the slim ones have most food… we will stop here, on this matter.
Perhaps we could even speculate a little about the “skin and bones” of Mies van der Rohe, who reduced his architecture to the misleading rhetoric of luxurious minimalism… a mimicry that still receives our homage and yes, rightly so, although…. Here perhaps we too could have some question marks.
AN ARCHITECTURE OF DISIMULATION.
AN ARCHITECTURE IN DISGUISE
We can also talk about the “cloud” that hides that architectural phantasm that Diller and Scofidio built in Switzerland or the “Steel Cloud” of Hanni Rashid.
THE DREAM OF DISAPPEARANCE is of course a dream.
And the more opulent we are, the more we want to disappear, it seems… through all kinds of “diets” whose morality could easily make a present or future Moliere smile… and write.
So let’s imagine THE HOUSE OF CAMOUFLAGE.
THE HOUSE OF DISIMULATION.
A HOUSE IN DISGUISE
A lying house, of course, but lying not necessarily out of maliciousness, but maybe out of fear… a timid house…? Maybe… or maybe not.
Let’s explore as many camouflages as possible, let’s see if, by NOT telling the truth we might not actually tell a different kind of truth, or even a higher (?) truth…
To end: isn’t our present obsession with “greenness” also an attempt to camouflage our unending greed…?!?
Essentially any architecture is RED, in our opinion, conceptually RED.
Anyway… this was just a detour.
Please send us ANY camouflaged house and we would be happy to publish it.
Thank you,
