THE HOUSE OF PEACE
A large and important exhibition that travels now through Europe is called: THE MISSING PEACE. It originated in the United States, then traveled to Madrid, Spain, and on May 18th it will open in Sibiu, a city in Transylvania, Romania, The European Cultural Capital of Europe, 2007.
It was in Sibiu, too, that ICARCH originated, in 2003.
In conjunction with this exhibition, we invite you to design THE HOUSE OF PEACE, so it will complement the exhibition THE MISSING PEACE, whose works, if you are interested, you can see a virtual tour of this important exhibition through the following link: http://gallery.tmpp.org/gallery/en/virtual/tour.html
We will actually launch two competitions:
THE HOUSE OF PEACE
&
A HOUSE FOR MILAREPA.
Why Milarepa…?
This exhibition, THE MISSING PEACE, is an homage to Dalai Lama, besides being a more general homage to peace. And Milarepa was a great Tibetan poet-mystic who lived for some time in a cave and who left us a great collection of poems, besides the message of his way of life. As an anecdotal fact, Constantin Brancusi felt he was a “reincarnation” of Milarepa… this only shows the prestige Milarepa had for artists like Brancusi… more than this, the actor Richard Gere (whom we want to invite to be part of the jury for these two competitions), an excellent photographer as well, published a book called: “Milarepa’s Cave,” besides publishing another beautiful book on Tibet.
We think that it would be beautiful and great if Architecture will also contribute to this theme, so important for human life (and not only “human”), though so neglected, unendingly in trouble.
Let’s contribute to THE MISSING PEACE with a similar plea, from the architects: for PEACE…!
Create a convincing, moving and mobilizing, HOUSE OF PEACE…!
Or / and show the wisdom derived from the virtues of a modus vivendi similar to the one Milarepa advocated in the later part of his life!
If previously we launched a competition for THE HOUSE OF WAR, with the same aim, of actually promoting peace, we invite you now to design:
THE HOUSE OF PEACE
and / or
A HOUSE FOR MILAREPA
Both will serve the same purpose: to complement the exhibition THE MISSING PEACE, from the field of architecture, our field.
Please send us ANY work, ANY size and ANY format that responds to the theme to: icarchgallery@yahoo.com. We will publish all the works received on our website: www.icarch.net. We will also organize an exhibition and / or a presentation in Sibiu, in conjunction with the large exhibition THE MISSING PEACE that will open there on May 18th, 2010. It is also very possible to create a constellation of similar events in other parts of the world (your own hometown?), at the very same time when this event will take place in Europe. Thus, it will be a concerted effort with the same theme: PEACE. ICARCH Gallery will create a pool of valuable works dealing with this theme, from which anyone would be able to select works, and use them, for such a purpose. There is an entry fee of 30E (15E for students) payable through the registration section of our website. This entry fee entitles one to take part in another competition that we launch, without paying another fee. Those who receive a merit award will be invited to participate in any other two competitions, without paying the entry fee, while the first prize winners will be able to do this three times. As an experiment, we propose that the jury be composed of the competitors themselves. Thus, the same people who enter the competition will also judge it, by a voting system that will allow them to evaluate all the works received, except their own. The deadline for registration is April 15th, 2010, while the deadline for submitting your work is May 15th, 2010. If you have any questions pertaining to these two competitions please be kind and contact us.
